Sticking to the grind

At the end of my last blog entry I said I planned to play around a thousand hands of NL10 as I was feeling pretty good about at the moment, well I actually stuck to my plan for once and I am pretty pleased that I did so.

The £30 or so that I had won I managed to spunk away playing super-turbo heads-up SNG like the donk that I am but over the past couple of days I have been playing cash and, shock horror, winning too! Things did not start very well and I lost 2.5 buy-ins in 455 hands, thanks to running Queens into a hyper-aggressive fish's Kings and then missing 12 outs twice against another loose player.

Stupidly I thought it would be a great idea to play some PLO25, even though I am not rolled for it. About 40 hands in I get it all in with TdTc4d4h on a Jd7c4sTh board only to lose to 9d6s5s5c when he hit an eight on the river. FML as they say.

Now usually I would withdraw my money from the site, sulk for a bit and then play on a different site but not this time. I am sick and tired of doing that, chopping and changing every five minutes and never getting anywhere. I've been playing poker for near on five years now and I am still playing against some of the most terrible players ever to have graced the game and there is only myself to blame.

With this new found determination to leave the micro donks behind, I started playing NL10 six-max and over the past four days I have logged 2,915 hands, profiting to the tune of $80.45, eight full stacks. I'm only playing four tables at once but I have started to really utilise my position at the tables and playing a much looser style, namely 28/25/2.5 instead of my usual 20/18 or 22/20 game, those few extra percent really make a difference. I could probably play even looser but I don't think there is any need to.

I cannot put my finger on why I have had this sudden transformation in my mindset but it must help that Baby Pud is now sleeping like a hibernating bear! For about six months, Mrs P and I had him in our bed and he was waking all the time and we were always knackered. Mrs P got that fed up with it that we bought another cot and she was going to do the controlled crying technique that Super Nanny uses! Then low an behold, we put him in his cot, he didn't cry even once and slept for 13 hours! We were prepared for no sleep for a week but he's been sleeping for between 12-14 hours every night so we are all refreshed! Sleep FTW!

Computer game wise I bought Metro 2033 as planned but I have just traded it in for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 because I couldn't get on with it. Reviews of Metro 2033 were of mixed opinion, with some saying the controls became awkward and cumbersome, something which I never saw until the later levels, which incidentally, is when you need control the most. Still, the game had a good story and was a good idea so I'd give it a seven out of ten if I had to rate it.

Plan of action for the next few days is to limit my play on Bejewelled 2 on Facebook, play another couple of thousand hands of NL10, break the $100 profit mark and write some articles for the A2B World Cup site.

As always, thanks for reading and best of luck at the tables
