If the medicine did not work for you at Sandown yesterday Dr Nick recommends a Lay down at Ludlow today.

At Ludlow today in the 3.05 Shavansky is worthwhile lay material in this two mile novice hurdle. He faces tough competition in the shape of Atomic Winner and Haar who both have the credentials to upset today's heavy favourite. In addition Shavansky may be venerable if the pace is slow and sometimes refuses to settle. Trading at [2.44] in the Betfair market this price represents little downside.

At Sandown today in the 3.55 Medicine Path looks to have a decent chance in this Group 2 event.

Last time out at Doncaster the selection won with plenty in hand beating a quality field easily. Today he has more to do but a couple of his opponents have questions to answer, not least Major Cadeaux who may not be suited by this trip. At present Medicine Path is trading at [2.86] for the win.

A trip over to Ireland is the order of the day.

At Punchestown Sublimity in the 4.20 is a horse i will be backing in this hot contest.Last time out he looked like he would win easily but faltered to finish fourth to Katchit at Cheltenham. At present the selection is trading at [2.66] on the exchange and i have backed him at this price.

Over at Sandown in the 3.35 Piano Sonata is a filly that catches my eye in this race.Last season at HQ she stood out in the paddock and was sent off at odds of [9.0] in a maiden won by current 1000gns favourite Infallible.She ran well, but finished down the field that day but left me with the impression that she would make a much better three year old. At present she is trading at [13.5] on the exchange.

In the opening race at Fontwell today at 2.20 Fit To Drive is an interesting runner in what is a big field. The selection was not disgraced behind the very talented Theatre Girl over this course last time out. Today she faces a weaker field and I think only a few have a chance of winning this contest. At present Fit To Drive is trading at [3.7] and this price appears fair.

At Perth in the 5.40, Prince Du Beury should go very close in this contest after some pretty decent efforts, notably last time out at Ascot when he ran well behind Hora. Today's race looks a lot easier and the selection is currently trading at [2.58] on the exchange, which appears to be fair.

At Kempton in the 9.20 I will be opposing Valery Borzov in this sprint run over six furlongs on the Poly. This gelding has not won for over a year and has not looked entirely straight forward in my opinion. Today, he faces legitimate opposition from a couple of in form rivals and at his current trading price of [2.16] does not look appealing. With little downside he is a lay for me.

Tuesday 22nd April: Pomme Tiepy can pack a punch at Punchestown

At Punchestown today I will be backing Pomme Tiepy in the 4.50. This mare came down at Cheltenham last time out and I felt that she was just beginning to get in to the race at the time of her mishap. At present she is trading at [2.68] on the exchange and I have backed her at this price and I think she should go very close in this contest.

Monday 21st April

I've a feeling Bikini can go well at a price at Windsor in the maiden at 6.55. Last year she ran a very respectable race in defeat when finishing third to Love Of Dubai at Warwick. At present Bikini is trading at [10.0] but I will try to secure a better price during the day. In addition, the stable is in decent form at present.
