Midnight Chase wins the Argento Chase.
"The Gold Cup could be next on the agenda for Midnight Chase and he is now available to back at [28.0]..."
Midnight Chase made every yard of the running to win the Grade 2 Argento Chase at Cheltenham on Festival Trials Day, finding plenty in the closing stages to fend off a late Tidal Bay rally with Knockara Beau back in third...
Midnight Chase (Betfair Starting Price of [7.2]) took the field along in the early stages with Time For Rupert ([4.8]) just in behind the leader for the first circuit. Diamond Harry ([4.7]) raced in midfield, whilst Tidal Bay 5.8]) was held up towards the back of the field. Captain Chris ([5.5]) raced in mid-division for the early stages of the race before being pulled up after a mile having jumped markedly out to his right at more than one fence.
The pace set by Midnight Chase was a genuine one throughout with some of his rivals feeling the pinch early on. Time for Rupert was first of the remaining big guns to fall by the wayside, fading out of contention after some small mistakes at some of his fences.
Turning for home, Midnight Chase was still finding plenty out in front as Little Josh began to loom, with Tidal Bay running on from the rear of the field and Diamond Harry also travelling generously. Dougie Costello still had plenty left up his sleeve for the closing stages, however, and Midnight Chase eventually saw off Little Josh, whose stamina gave way in the closing stages, before storming up the Cheltenham hill to record his fifth victory at Cheltenham.
Tidal Bay continued to stay on from out of the pack and eventually finished second but he never looked like getting to the winner, who stayed on to win by two lengths, Knockara Beau back in third.
The Gold Cup could be next on the agenda for Midnight Chase and he is now available to back at ([28.0]) for the race in which he finished fifth last year.
Tidal Bay is also entered in that contest, currently trading at ([60.0]), whilst the Grand National could also be in the offing for him, a contest which he can be backed for at ([40.0]).
