So far it's been an inglorious Goodwood for Carl Harris. Will things improve on day three?

It's back to Goodwood for another great day of racing. I got things badly wrong yesterday and I take my hat off to Rip Van Winkle, who won the Sussex Stakes in fine style. Thursday looks a difficult puzzle to solve, but I think I have found a couple of winners.

Borderlescott (2.45) is as tough as teak and always runs a solid race. Last time at Chester he proved that when having a troubled passage to get up and win. As I said on Saturday, Robin Bastiman is an excellent trainer and will have Borderlescott, as he did with Singeur (won 9-2), trained to the minute. He has found a race where his stable star is very well in at the weights and looks, with four each-way places, an excellent win and place proposition. The Greek freak, Ialysos heads the weights but may have a bit too much to win again with a group race penalty to carry. Kingsgate Native is officially rated the best horse in the race, but has it all to prove following an aborted stud career and I am prepared to take him on, with Borderlescott.

Godolphin will be desperate for a big winner at Glorious Goodwood which could be Schiaparell (3.25) who was last seen running in the UK at Newmarket when third in the group two Prince of Wales Stakes. That was over 1m 4f and he is stepped up to two miles, which is a risk, but in what looks a very winnable race he may just have too much class for his rivals. Certainly Dettori will look to get to the front and then dictate the pace, a tactic he is a master at, then make full use of his finishing speed. I think this will see him home and am prepared to back the best horse, on ratings, in the race.
