Sunday was a blank day made all the more depressing by watching England lose the fourth Ashes test by an innings and eighty runs. With most people back to work, after such nice weather over the weekend there could be a few cases of Monday blues around the country today which hopefully can be lifted with a couple of nice winners. I will be backing a couple of in-form types tonight, which should hopefully provide a lift to the spirits.

Spiders Star (8.00) is a stayer that knows how to win, which cannot be said about most of his rivals. With the exception of top weight Baan a win is but a distant memory for the rest. Spiders Star on the other hand has visited the winners' enclosure the last twice and the hat-trick looks a significant possibility at Thirsk tonight. Though 10 pounds higher than when winning two races in quick succession the gelding has greatly improved for new trainer Sheena West, with possibly more to come. Spiders Star could still be a nicely handicapped horse.

Clientele (6.50) sees Neil Callan team up with Mark Johnston, which is a combination worth following. First and foremost Clientele is Mark Johnston's only runner at Windsor tonight, a trip of some 250 miles each way, which must be significant in itself. Clientele won well last time, from the front, to break his maiden at Pontefract and now makes his handicap debut off a mark of 82.
