Will Newmarket see winning runs from Recession Proof and Long Lashes?

Ascot stages the Shergar Cup today, but though I like watching it I don't bet in it. I like to know that the trainers can give their instructions and they are understood. I would love to hear Dandy Nicholls giving Hiroyuki Uchida instructions. I will keep a watching brief at Ascot but at Newmarket at Haydock there is some excellent racing and betting opportunities.

Of late I have done well with horses carrying a 12 pounds penalty and Recession Proof (2.25) is another that I will be backing to defy that burden. Last week he won by five lengths at Newbury then on Wednesday he destroyed the field in an amateur race, coming home nine lengths clear. He is clearly ahead of the handicapper, and wisely Simon Callaghan has stepped the son of Rock Of Gibraltar up in grade. Though a better race, facing better horses like Yirga, I think we will see the hat-trick landed by this in form three year-old. David Probert takes off three of the 12 which will certainly help.

Duncan (2.40) has had a good season, though last time out he blotted his copy book finishing last in a group two at Newmarket. That run can be ignored, but it is a worry of course. The previous run was a close up fourth in the Corronation Cup and if able to reproduce that then he will win this race, and win it well. Campanologist ran equally disappointingly in that same Newmarket race, finishing only just in front of today's selection. But despite that I think this race revolves around these two. Assuming all is well, and we can safely assume that if there were any doubts then John Gosden would not be running, then Duncan has the class to win this and I will be backing him to do so.

Long Lashes won very well, at 25/1, on her debut and is sure to have come on for that run and she could be a very nice filly, certainly Godolphin will be banking on that and I know that she has impressed in her work at Newmarket.
