"Nicky Henderson has some decent horses at Seven Barrows but Dave’s Dream is not one of them. This though is a shocking race which is a gilt edged chance and will leave connections scratching their heads if they can’t win."
Carl Harris is keeping stakes small in anticipation of a big weekend
It has rained, boy has it rained, Hexham was cancelled on Wednesday and the three jump meetings today will certainly be run on soft going at best. There may be a few interesting novice races but there is a distinct lack of quality today. Maybe it is the weather that has shaped that view or maybe it's the high quality of the weekend racing, who knows...
The highlight of the weekend will be Kauto Star's return to the track. It was interesting to read Timeform's views on Kauto and the potential soft/heavy going at Haydock on Saturday, as a huge fan of Paul Nicholl's wonder horse I hope he repeats last season's Gold Cup win and another King George will probably see the race named after him, and rightly so.
I recommend small stakes today as we build up to the weekend. My bet will be a multiple with one horse at each jumps venue on Wednesday.
14:20 Hereford, Fiendish Flame - Win. This is a decent race which shapes as a match with Diablo. Fiendish Flame was a very easy winner, by 12 lengths, at Carlisle last time out. Diablo has shown promise but for me Fiendish Flame was a decent hurdler who can go on to be a high class chaser. I take the view that he will have no problem in giving the field six pounds.
14:10 Huntingdon, Dave's Dream - Win. Nicky Henderson has some decent horses at Seven Barrows but Dave's Dream is not one of them. This though is a shocking race which is a gilt edged chance and will leave connections scratching their heads if they can't win. He should really win and the booking of Tony McCoy is always significant. Dave's Dream is my best bet of the day.
For my value bet I recommend a win and place bet on Bennelong (19:00 Kempton) who has traded at over [8.0] but is now in to [5.5]. A good winner of a maiden at Southwell last time he has changed stables since and has the Champion Jockey aboard tonight. Certainly a place bet for Bennelong looks rock solid.
Lets hope for a decent payout with better racing later this week.
