Confront is Carl's bet of the day
"Sir Michael Stoute steps Confront up to a Group Three contest but he has the form and more importantly the scope to prevail, with the excellent Ryan Moore aboard. Confront is a very strong bet and my best one of the day."
Carl Harris returns to Newmarket with a pair of bets on a big Friday
Although there are several meetings today I am focusing exclusively on the action at Newmarket as nothing comes close to the quality of the card at HQ today. There are several pattern races and some very good horses running. The next three days are as good as we will get in the Flat racing calendar, so hopefully we can capitalise financially.
Confront (1.55) is a horse going the right way and comes here having won listed races at York and Haydock on his last two outings. Sir Michael Stoute steps his four year-old up to a Group Three contest but he has the form and more importantly the scope to prevail, with the excellent Ryan Moore aboard. Confront is a very strong bet and my best one of the day.
The big race of the day, the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes which looks a showdown between Sand Vixen and Mick Channon's Lady of the Desert (2.30). The latter horse is a very smart two year-old, and redolent of another Channon horse, Flashy Wings.
Lady of the Desert won the Lowther Stakes, at York, a Group Two and is stepped up here to Group One. The official ratings have her six pounds clear of the field (rated 113) and I think she will win and give the yard something to look forward to over the winter.
Carl Harris' Best Bets for Friday October 2...
1.55 Newmarket - Confront, Win
2.30 Newmarket - Lady of the Desert, Win

Carl, Lady of the Desert is a Brian Meehan trained filly. She might be redolent of Flashy Wings, but she ain't trained by the same guy.
