Dwayne Wade

Dwyane Wade was born on January 17th 1982 in Chicago, Illinois and spent much of his youth being brought up by his father and step-mother in Robbins, Illinois. As a child, Wade idolised Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan, and the 6ft 4in guard claims to have modelled his play on his hero.

Wade attended Marquette University in Milwaukee and during his college years he helped them to their most successful season in eight years in 2001-2002, before leading the Golden Eagles to the Final Four the season after and being named MVP in the Midwest regional.

After such a successful season, Wade opted to forgo his final year at college and entered the NBA draft in 2003. Wade was selected 5th overall by Miami Heat, making him the highest draft selection in Marquette's history. He enjoyed a successful debut year, qualifying for the play-offs with the Heat and securing nomination for the NBA All-Rookie Team. Had it not been for the emergence of LeBron James, Wade would have been in with a great chance of winning the Rookie of the Year award.

In 2004-2005 Miami Heat improved again, coming within seconds of qualifying for the NBA finals, and Wade's contribution was recognised with a call up to be a reserve in the 2005 All Star Game. In 2006, Wade's hard work paid off when the Heat defeated the Chicago Bulls 4-2 in the NBA Finals; he scored 43 points in game five and was named MVP for the finals.

Over the next two seasons, Wade struggled with injury and was forced to undergo surgery on his shoulder and knee. He was sorely missed by the Heat, who failed to repeat their success of 2006.

Wade recovered from injury in time to win gold with the US Basketball team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but he couldn't prevent the Heat from losing to Atlanta in the first round of the play-offs. In the following four seasons Wade would help Miami to the NBA Championship Twice (in 2012 and 2013) and he would continue to set individual records.

Wade holds the record as the all-time leading shot blocker in the NBA amongst players under 6'5" and, in 2009, he became the first player to register at least 2,000 points, 100 steals, 500 assists, and 100 blocks in a season.  For the Heat, Wade holds the record for the most points scored, the most assists, the most games played and the most minutes. Still with a lot to offer, he is already considered to be a legend of the game.
