Mardy Fish is an American professional tennis player, currently playing on the ATP Tour. Fish is known as a hard court specialist, possessing a strong serve and a reliable backhand that makes him one of the best players in the world on that surface. The American burst onto the scene at the same time as former room-mate Andy Roddick, although Fish spent much of his career in the shadow of his compatriot.

Fish has won six ATP Tour events, also winning a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Fish's best results in Grand Slams came when he reached the quarter-finals at the 2007 Australian Open, the 2008 US Open, and the 2011 Wimbledon Championships, although he did reach the semi-finals in the 2009 Wimbledon men's doubles with partner James Blake.
Fish won his first ATP singles title in 2003, beating home favourite Robin Soderling in the final of the Stockholm Open in Sweden, finishing the year ranked 20th in the world. Fish's next title came in 2006 at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships, going on to reach the quarter-finals at the Australian Open in 2007 and the 2008 U.S. Open. Fish's next ATP title came in 2009, ending 2010 with his tally at five. 2011 was Fish's most successful season.
In April 2011, Fish overtook compatriot Andy Roddick to become the American no. 1 in the ATP rankings, going on to produce his best result at the French Open by reaching the quarter-finals before losing to Gilles Simon. Fish followed that up by reaching the quarter-finals at Wimbledon for the first time in his career, ending the year ranked a career-high seventh, qualifying for the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for the first time.
Fish began the 2012 season in disappointing fashion, struggling with 'fatigue' before revealing he was suffering from severe cardiac arrhythmia. After undergoing an operation to fix the problem, Fish made his return to action at that summer's Wimbledon Championships, reaching the fourth round before losing to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
In the 2012 US Open Fish began the tournament as the 23rd seed. He beat Go Soeda, Nikolay Davydenko, and Gilles Simon on his way to the fourth round before being forced to withdraw from the tournament due to a recurrence of his health problems before his tie with Roger Federer. Fish did not play on tour for the rest of the season, going on to play in just a handful of events in 2013.
