The fly-half is the third highest points scorer in the history of the Wales national team in the sport behind Neil Jenkins and Stephen Jones.

The Welshman can play in a number of positions, including centre and full-back. He currently features for Perpignan in the Top 14 in France.

Hook's first taste of senior rugby came with Neath RFC in 2004. He spent three years at the club and broke their record for the individual number of points accumulated by one player in a season.

In 2006, he signed for the Ospreys to play in the Magners League. He went on to make over 100 appearances for the Welsh club, scoring 780 points over the next six years.

Perpignan signed the fly-back in 2011 on a three-year contract, joining a number of British players who have opted to make the move across the channel to take part in the Top 14, which is regarded as one of the best leagues in the world.

Hook has been a regular with the Wales national team since 2006. He made his debut for his country against Argentina, scoring a late try for his side.

His first home match for Wales came against Australia at the Millennium Stadium on November 4, 2006. The hosts drew the game 29-29, with Hook responsible for 13 of the points in a Man of the Match performance.

In the 2007 Six Nations Championship, he was forced to play at inside centre for a number of games due to injuries in the squad. He played in all five fixtures, including Wales' win over England in the final round of games. That was their first success against a tier one nation since beating Scotland in the 2006 competition. He scored 22 points in the 27-18 victory, which included a try, conversion, penalty and drop goal.

Hook made his debut for the British and Irish Lions in 2009 during their tour of South Africa. He replaced his Welsh teammate Leigh Halfpenny, who had picked up a thigh injury and had to miss the tour. During the game against the Lions Super Rugby, he scored one try and kicked three conversions in the win.
