'SirBask suddenly seemed to commit poker suicide losing several largish pots in quick succession in spots he didn’t need to play culminating in his exit to Ayern3a. SirBask got his remaining 140k of chips into the middle with 10 9 on a Ten high flop but Ayern3a was holding QQ and SirBask’s fall from grace was complete.'
Week nine of the Team Betfair WSOP trials saw a spectacular 834 players do battle for those valuable Vegas packages. Two players would be walking away with a $4000 package for event 59 at the WSOP, $1500 in travelling expenses and maybe most importantly a week of the legendary Betfair hospitality!
I managed to only last 45 minutes in this week's tournament. I had a few skirmishes early on but lost most of them and soon only had about 1400 left of my 2012 starting stack. I ended up in a pot from the big blind with 56 suited, the flop gave me an open ended straight draw and the turn a flush draw as well at which point all my chips went in. Obviously I missed even though I had virtually half the deck to aim at and I found myself now watching from the rail having finished 528th.
Fifteen minutes later and the first break had arrived and we were now down to 444 players. THUNDERBOX_x was leading the way with over 18k and was followed by LuckyDY on 15k.
During the following hour the players were still dropping like flies and by the time the second break was upon us the field had been trimmed down 142 players. BEL2901 was now our chip leader with a monster 77k distantly followed by Bet Storage on 45k and SirBask on 43k.

Over the next hour the elimination rate slowed right down and when the third break started we were now left with 56 players still battling to get to Vegas. The top three were still the same but the order had changed. SirBask now led the way with 110k with Bet Storage on 100k and BEL2901 on 83k.
At the fourth break we were left with only 19 players and with the final table now in view the play had seemingly tightened up. Mecano1414 had worked his way through the field to now be the chip leader with 221k with long time front runner SirBask in second on 161k.
Just 25 minutes later we had lost another nine players and had arrived at the final table where the standings were as follows:-
Mecano1414 341k
SirBask 337k
444Zoling444 227k
Ayern3a 183k
Tangolima33 171k
vesito8 134k
yet to know 126k
Sn1k3r12 117k
MikLowrey 38k
Ploumavaro1 3k
First had of the final table we lost Ploumavaro1 with his micro stack, the blinds were 3k/6k with a 600 running ante and his 10 7 was easily out gunned by SirBask's AQ. MikLowrey fell shortly afterwards, he got his chips in with 99, yet to know called his shove with KQ and a Queen on the flop sealed Mik's fate.
Tangolima33 then moved into contention when he won a 350k pot. He had raised pre flop, vesito holding AJ shoved all in and Tango insta-called with KK. The board brought a Jack but no Ace and vesito finished seventh. SirBask suddenly seemed to commit poker suicide losing several largish pots in quick succession in spots he didn't need to play culminating in his exit to Ayern3a. SirBask got his remaining 140k of chips into the middle with 10 9 on a Ten high flop but Ayern3a was holding QQ and SirBask's fall from grace was complete.

Sn1k3r12 then took out two players in back to back hands. Firstly he eliminated 444Zoling444 with his AA crushing Zoling's AK. Next hand it was yet to know's turn to get the Sn1k3r12 treatment. On a Ten high flop all his chips ended up in the middle with QT but Sn1k3r12 was holding QQ and with no miracle Ten on the turn or river we were now left with four players.
The play really tightened up now and the four remaining players swopped chips backwards and forwards until the fifth break where the chip counts were as follows :- Ayern3a 540k, Tangolima33 388k, Mecano1414 377k and Sn1k3r12 371k.
When play resumed the cautious play continued with Ayern3a slowly extending his lead with plenty of pre flop raises. This was halted when he called Mecano's shove on a Q84 board with AQ, Mecano showed 88 and doubled up to be chip leader. Ten minutes later Mecano extended his lead when he dumped Sn1k3r12 into fourth place. Sn1k3r12 shoved with KJ and Mecano called with AQ. A Jack on the flop put Sn1k3r12 in front but an Ace on the river condemned him to fourth place.
Mecano now had double the chips of his remaining two opponents put together and used his stack to put them to the sword. Eventually Tangolima had enough of this and reraised yet another Mecano raise shoving all his chips in. After a bit of deliberation Mecano called but found his A3 up against A5. The flop and turn brought 4 large cards and a split pot seemed to be on its way but a Three on the river cruelly slammed Tangolima into third place and gave us our two winners!
Congratulations to our two Team Betfair trial nine winners Mecano1414 and Ayern3a who both win those sought after Vegas packages with all the trimmings! They will both be travelling out to Vegas for WSOP event 59 and I look forward to meeting them both out there.
