Hello and welcome to my latest blog where I must first apologise for the lack of updates but by the time you finish reading this one you will almost certainly understand why I have been so busy and unable to find time to knock together a few words for you all to read - hopefully that is the case anyway!
Of course the biggest thing on my agenda right now is Las Vegas and the 2012 World Series of Poker. Usually I look forward to the constant partying but this time around I am even excited for the poker!
Of course the biggest thing on my agenda right now is Las Vegas and the 2012 World Series of Poker. Usually I look forward to the constant partying but this time around I am even excited for the poker! For the last few years I feel I have really slacked and underperformed and I feel like I have let myself down. This year, once I arrive in Vegas, I am going to play a WSOP event every other day, which is something I have never done before but I am going to give it a solid go when I get there!
Away from the craziness of Las Vegas - where for the first four days I am completing a life course where many have said it is more like a cult - I have been playing cash games in London. I took the last week off online Pot Limit Omaha cash games (which was great for my soul) but it was a private live cash game that had me almost losing my mind.
The game started off as £100/£200 but that only lasted around three hands before that was changed to £100/£200/£400! Within the hour everyone was straddling to £800, lowering the stacks in ratio to the blinds and therefore lowering my edge and increasing my opponents' over me. By the time we had played for three hours the blinds were fully straddled to the button! So it was 100-200-400-800-1600-3200-6400 and I could basically only shove preflop!
Amazingly I do not have many interesting hands but there was plenty of swearing and sweating going on an by some miracle I managed to somehow scrape together a small win. It turns out No Limit Hold'em is still exciting, you just have to play 100 times bigger than Pot Limit Omaha!
Last but certainly not least is the main reason why I have been insanely busy; I am moving from London to South America. I have been busy packing and boxing everything up for the last half of Vegas and then I will be embarking on an adventure through South America for a couple of months, returning to Europe for the 2012 World Series of Poker Europe then heading to Alba in Italy which is the capital of truffles! Hopefully I will still have enough money left to engage in the week long truffle festival that mainly consists of a truffle hunt and gorging yourself on truffles!
Exciting times are ahead and I promise to share them with you here on the Betfair Blog!
