There is no denying that Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is the best in the NFL. Some go so far as to say that Manning is the greatest quarterback ever, so how does he stack up against other greats of the game?

Peyton Manning- Indianapolis Colts 1998-2011, Denver Broncos 2012-present
For starters, Manning is the only four-time MVP in NFL history. "The Sheriff" ranks second in all-time career completions (5,082), touchdowns (436) and overall wins (154). However, Manning holds the record for most 4,000-yard seasons (12) and he is the only player to throw 3,000 or more yards in his first 13 seasons, while his 12 Pro Bowl selections are more than any other quarterback. His storied career saw him win the Super Bowl with the Colts in 2006 and he looks likely to win the competition with the Broncos in the not too distant future.
Brett Favre- Atlanta Falcons 1991, Green Bay Packers 1992-2007, N. Y. Jets 2008, Minnesota Vikings 2009-2010
Manning is the perennial runner-up to Favre, who holds the record for most wins (186), yards (71,838), completions (6,300), touchdowns (508) and also made 299 consecutive starts. The gunslinger at times was more cyborg than man and was the first three-time MVP. With Green Bay he won two Super Bowls but his reputation has been slightly tarnished following his acrimonious departure from the club.
John Elway - Denver Broncos 1983-1998
Elway is revered in Colorado after helping them to win two Super Bowls (1997, 1998). Despite not having any Hall of Fame calibre receivers, in the 1998 game he threw an 80-yard touchdown. It was Elway's never-say-never attitude that endeared him to America, best characterised by The Drive of 1986 against the Cleveland Browns, a 98-yard march in the final minutes of regulation time which took the game into overtime (Denver won). Elway was a natural athlete who was just as comfortable running with the ball as he was
throwing it and was a one-time MVP.
Joe Montana- San Francisco 49ers 1979-92, Kansas City Chiefs 1993-1994
Nothing seemed to faze Montana, who, as a result of this calm and collected demeanour, was christened Joe Cool. Montana was a two-time league MVP and helped the 49ers to four Super Bowl titles; he is the only player to be named Super Bowl MVP three times. Montana was the king of the fourth-quarter comeback; in total he had 31 fourth quarter come-from-behind wins. In the 1981 NFC Championship Game and Super Bowl XXIII Montana threw game winning passes.
