Price to power through
Two of the tournament's heavy hitters enter on Tuesday with Gerwyn Price still out at 20/121.00 to win here at Ally Pally for the second time in his career.
The Freeze to flourish
Danny Noppert has always been known as a consistent performer on the PDC circuit and his strong finishing ability under pressure but over the last few months, he's added a new dimension to his game.
His improved scoring power has been impossible to ignore, he's hitting more 180s per leg and whilst his doubling stats have remained around the same leave, all other areas have improved.
He's reliable, dependable and even though his record in this particular event hasn't been either of those things, I think he'll have too much for his young opponent.
Perplexingly, his best run in this showpiece event has been to the Last 32 and he's also lost his opening match in his last two visits to the Palace but with a little more stage presence and a scoring power to challenge most, I believe he is going to take some stopping this year.
Up against a player in Jurjen van der Velde who made the Last 16 of the Grand Slam on debut last month and who's regarded as one of the most promising youngsters in the sport but when you look at the experience and the numbers both have been producing, it's hard to see the Dutch darter getting too many chances at the back end of legs.
I'm backing Noppert to win, hit the most 180s & highest checkout at 10/111.91.

Price to make promising start to latest campaign
Gerwyn Price has a running average of 98 in 2025, has picked up six titles but none of them have come in a big major.
By his own admission, he has squandered opportunities when in promising positions in matches and tournaments and let players off the hook too many times either because he has been a little subdued or possibly had lapses in concentration.
He has not made it to a major final since losing to Luke Humphries at the Grand Prix in 2023, suffering defeat in three big semi-finals this season at the World Series of Darts Finals, Grand Slam and Players Championship Finals.

I'm expecting big things from him here though and as one of few players with a ceiling high enough and the ability to sustain a level good enough to compete with the two Lukes, think he is worth backing to clinch the title for the second time in his career at 20/121.00.
Back Gerwyn Price to win the World Championship
Every element of his game is stronger than his first round opponents, in Adam Gawlas. These two have only met once before and it was The Iceman who prevailed but that was way back in 2021.
The former world number one has a 180 per leg ration of 0.30 over the last three months so I'm backing him to win the match and hit 5+ 180s at 5/42.25.
