Pour Moi

Pour Moi is a retired racehorse perhaps best remembered for his success in the Derby at Epsom in 2011.

He only saw the racecourse on five occasions due to injury, but he won on three of those outings.

The bay horse is a son of Montjeu and was owned by Mrs John Magier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith.

During his racecourse career, he was trained in France by Andre Fabre, who is one of the most successful trainers in the history of French racing. Pour Moi gave him his first win in the English Classic.

After the victory in the Derby, he was set for a shot at the Prix de L'Arc de Tromphe at Longchamp in Paris, where he was the ante-post favourite. However, two months before the premier middle distance contest in Europe, he picked up a serious injury and had to be retired. The incident happened in Chantilly during an exercise where he suffered a severe overreach to his near-fore fetlock.

In his retirement, Pour Moi has been standing at stud at Coolmore. He began breeding during the 2012 season.
Pour Moi made his debut on September 23, 2010 at Fontainebleu as a two-year-old where he came home eighth after missing the break due to inexperience out of the starting stalls.

He did return later that year for his first victory at Longchamp in October. It came in a conditions race for two-year olds where he scored by just a neck ahead of Oppenort. Following the race, he was rested during the winter ahead of his three-year old campaign.

In the Group Three Prix La Force in April, 2011, Fabre's colt refused to settle which did not help his chances. He finished the 1m2f contest really strongly, but was just under two lengths behind the winner Baraan at the line.

The three-year old stamped his claim for a shot at the Derby in England when he won the Group Two Prix Greffulhe ay Saint-Cloud. He was held up at the rear of the field in the 1m2f race by jockey Mickael Barzalona but ran on well to pick up the lead in the closing stages.

The French-trained horse went into the Derby as a 4/1 shot behind 5/2 favourite Carlton House. Again, Barzalona held his mount up and went from last to first to get up by a head in front of Treasure Beach.
