Pat Murphy's charge can get his season off to a winning start
Back Galtee Mountain @ 5/1 in the 15:20 Ffos Las
Pat Murphy's progressive five-year-old Galtee Mountain likes nothing better than running on soft or heavy ground, all his best runs have come in these conditions. I think he can get his campaign off to the best of starts after his 208 day break. Following his successful run at Fontwell last time out, I expect him to be back stronger with another summer on his back.
He gets in here just 3lb heavier than that last win and that looks well within his capabilities, especially on this ground. It will be interesting to see if there is any major move in the market for him today. On his other win he landed a bit of a late gamble when winning at Warwick on New Years Eve (2019), so any market confidence would also be nice to see.
The favourite in the race is Uno Mas trained by Christian Williams and it's not hard to see why. He bolted up over course and distance by 19 lengths just seven days ago so the 7lb penalty might not be enough to stop him going in again. However, the issues I have with him are that he is being turned out again soon and this ground might not be to his liking, he hasn't been within 20 lengths of a winner when the going has been reported soft or worse.
At the prices I would rather take my chance with the proven mudlark Galtee Mountain.
Her Indoors will relish her night out
Back Her Indoors @ 3/1 in the 20:30 Chelmsford
I am hoping the final race of the day at Chelmsford is worth waiting for. Her Indoors was a winner on the Turf at Lingfield when sent off a well-backed favourite last month and should appreciate this step up in distance for trainer Alan King. The Ravens Pass filly has run well both times on this surface, but the way she stayed on in the closing stages the last day suggests she will relish this test and will have no problem with stamina.
I also suspect this will be the final time we see her on the flat as I think her next destination after this will be a Juvenile Hurdle somewhere. So I am sure the King team will be looking to send her off in style.
She only has to see off five other challengers. Capla Huntress heads the market after completing a hat-trick of wins, Chris Wall's four-year-old grey filly has been in superb form but she might just be reaching the end of her winning sequence. She only managed to get home by a nose last time and she gets another 1lb off the handicapper today.
A bigger threat may be Perfect Arch running for Godolphin, she has been dropping in grade and surely there will be a race in him at this level, for the son of Dawn Approach.
