Horse Racing Tips: Tristan Davidson will have The Dutchman ready today

The Dutchman looks to have a good chance in the veterans race

"With two of his three wins coming on heavy ground, I just feel in this veterans race he can step up massively on that first effort and that could well be enough to wing this"

A winner and a second (traded 1.48 in running) for Alan yesterday. Today he has two veterans to follow at Haydock and Ludlow...

The Flying Dutchman can do it once again at Haydock

Back The Dutchman @ 7/2 in the 14:20 Haydock

As racing with spectators returns to some of our racecourses, Tristan Davidson's 10-year-old returns to Hadock to take part in the feature event the Betfair Veterans' Handicap Chase and that makes The Dutchman of obvious interest. He has run three times at the course and produced a career best over todays course and distance when absolutely bolting up in a Grade 2 handicap in early 2018. He has only been seen three times since that win, on his penultimate start he was going well for a long time in the Grand National until he blundered and eventually unseated Harry Cobden at Foinavon second time around.

He has since moved from Colin Tizzard to the Davidson team and this is only his second outing for them. He will have needed the run last time out at Wetherby over hurdles after a spell of 931 days off the track. With two of his three wins coming on heavy ground, I just feel in this veterans race he can step up massively on that first effort and that could well be enough to wing this.

Fagan should be able to pick these off at Ludlow

Back Fagan @ 7/2 in the 14:05 Ludlow

Fagan, was a very useful hurdler for Gordon Elliott, including finishing second in the 2016 Albert Bartlett. The 10-year-old grey is now with Alex Hales, he is dropping in grade and looks well treated on some of his old form, he was rated 147 on his final start for Elliot. He had a pipe opener at Aintree last month and the return to chasing will suit today, as will today's stiffer test.

Over to Sam for Harry Fry ended last season with a decent third in a competitive novices' handicap at Uttoxeter and a first-time tongue-tie may unlock further improvement. He can also go well fresh and has claims in this but off 133 on seasonal debut might just be asking a bit too much of the lightly raced nine-year-old. The one I think will chase home Fagan is Truckin Away for Philip Hobbs who returned after a second wind operation to finish a decent fourth at Exeter last month and there may be more to come.
