"There could be plenty of improvement to come from him as he mentally matures"

Rhys Williams has analysed Friday's racing and has two selections at Doncaster...

Looked a strong stayer on sole run in British point

Doncaster 13:05: Dash Full Of Cash 1pt win 4/1

Only four line up for this three-mile maiden hurdle and Wiseguy is the odds-on favourite. He made a good start to his career when winning a bumper at this track but he was comfortably held on hurdling debut at Fontwell last time. It might be that he improves for this much stiffer test of stamina but he has looked a bit awkward under pressure on both starts so I can pass at the price.

Amenon is second favourite on his second start for Paul Nicholls. He showed a fairly good level of form in France for Guillaume Macaire but was off the track for 880 days prior to his first start for Nicholls at Ffos Las. He was soon left behind on the final turn that day but he was reported to have made a noise and the tongue tie he wore in France is now back on. He might improve for that and the run at Ffos Las but I can't see any edge in the price.

The horse whose chance I think has been underestimated by the market is Dash Full Of Cash who made a promising start to his career at Kimble in April.

He tracked eventual winner, Another Mystery, until making a mistake at the first fence down the back on the final circuit. With the pace starting to increase, that put him on the back foot and he was in a bit tight at the next before being pushed along turning down the side of the course. While he did respond to driving, he still looked well held just before the home straight but turning in and coming under stronger pressure, he started to close on the leader. He was still about six lengths down at the last and finished strongly to only be beaten a length.

Dash Full Of Cash looked more backward than Another Mystery, only seeming to switch on and realise what was required of him late on, so there could be plenty of improvement to come from him as he mentally matures. This was a good performance on the clock and it was encouraging that he pulled thirty lengths clear of the third.

While Another Mystery has been well held in a bumper since, my view after Kimble was that 'he wouldn't be one to bother with in a bumper' so my view of the performance isn't impacted by that while it may have affected the market.

I expect that Dash Full Of Cash will be at his best in the long term in staying chases and it may be that he's still a bit green today but the ability he showed at Kimble suggests he should be shorter given the doubts over the front pair in the market and any 7/2 or bigger appeals.

Chasing type who looks leniently treated on hurdles form

Doncaster 13:40: The Brass Man 1pt win 15/2

I'm anticipating this novices' handicap chase will be run at a good pace with Emir Sacree and The Golden Rebel in the field and that could set the race up nicely for The Brass Man who is making his chasing debut.

He started his career in Irish points and was given a lot to do on debut when staying on late to finish third behind Silver Hallmark, who contests tomorrow's Racing Post Gold Cup.

He got off the mark in a point to point bumper next time and was bought by Tom George soon after for £110,000.

The Brass Man was disappointing on rules debut at this track but he jumped moderately that day and was given a wind op soon after so there was excuses for that performance.

On his first run after the wind op and with a hood and tongue tie on for the first time at Lingfield, he ran very well to finish second to Threeunderthrufive. Having raced in midfield, he made headway towards the end of the back straight and jumped into a share of the lead at 2 out.

He briefly appeared to be going best before being pushed along and not finding as much as the strong staying winner, who went on to finish sixth in the Albert Bartlett, while the third is now rated 134 over hurdles.

The Brass Man once again finished second on his most recent start at Exeter, back down in trip to 2m1f. Again he raced in midfield before making headway late in the back straight and was close up in a share of fourth entering the home straight. He cruised upsides Orbys Legend at 3 out and the pair had a battle from that point with Orbys Legend just getting the better of it by three quarters of a length, with sixteen lengths back to the third. Orbys Legend won again two starts later and is now rated 137 over hurdles.

It was taking how well The Brass Man travelled for a long way in both of these races and physically he looks a likely type to improve for the switch to chasing and he jumped hurdles like a future chaser in that he was often a bit big over them.

The likely good pace should suit him and while I have a slight doubt over how much he finds for pressure, he looks overpriced in this contest off a mark of 123 and any 13/2 or bigger appeals.
