Horse Racing Tips: Hexham duo have staying power for Saturday 89/1 double

As great as the Newmarket card was yesterday, the watered ground and some messy tactical affairs is taking me to my beloved Hexham for a couple of bets today instead of the Classics, and Freethinker has got something to offer at an each-way price for the opening Conditional Jockeys Handicap Hurdle.

He has been backed from 10s into 8s.

The 7yo landed a couple of Newcastle Handicap Hurdles over 2m6f and 3m in 2022, and while at a low grade, he is unexposed enough to get a decent run out of him.

Lilly Pinchin gave him a great ride in one of those wins to really utilise his stamina, and with the way he stayed 3m at Newcastle, his stamina should give us a chance of hitting at least a place.

He has good ground form, and it will certainly be on the better side in the north east today despite some rain forecast.

Last seen in April pulling up, it's the negative here, but the price factors in that and it looks quite a poor race.

Another three-miler for the punting day and Skyhill is a cracking each-way price (and drifter) from 15/2 to 9/1 and he is very much a long-distance horse.

He landed a race over 3m3f at Sedgefield last time in heavy ground and fully deserves his 7lb rise for that, although the soft ground seems to very much suit him.

The 10 year-old jumps well and stays even further, which is just the sort of Hexham profile horse I like and Alison Hamilton has described him as a little star. He's very genuine.

Hamilton is 2-6 at 33% in the last month.
