Chicago Grey is a racehorse who runs over national hunt rules for trainer Gordon Elliott.
The grey gelding is based in Ireland but often runs in the UK in some of the most valuable races on the calendar.
The biggest win of his career so far came at the 2011 Cheltenham Festival when he was successful in the National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup over 4m.
Chicago Grey made his debut on December 26, 2007 at Leopardstown in a national hunt flat race where he finished fifth. Two further runs followed that season on the flat but a third place finish was the best he could do from his outings.
The following season he went over hurdles. His opening run over obstacles on a racecourse came at Fairyhouse. He was denied victory by a short-head in a photo-finish by Head Of The Posse.
In what was his ninth career appearance, Chicago Grey did finally break his maiden tag in his last run of the 2008/2009 campaign. It came over 2m4f at Perth in Scotland and he did so by 10 lengths after going off the 2/1 favourite in the betting.
Two further victories followed in his 2009/2010 campaign. He also featured in the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival but failed to be competitive as he finished at the rear of the field.
The best form of Chicago Grey's career has come over fences since his switch to chasing. His first victory over the bigger obstacles came at Galway on July 29, 2010 in a beginners chase.
It proved to be a busy season for the grey with 11 outings that included four victories. The biggest success of his career came at the 2011 Festival at Cheltenham in the 4m National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup for amateur riders. He was fancied to go well in the long distance contest where he started as the market leader at 5/1. He was able to justify that support by winning by over four lengths. Jockey Mr Dereck O'Connor gave him a patient ride in the early stages before taking the lead two fences from home.
Since that victory at the biggest festival of the year, he has had two attempts at the Grand National at Aintree. In 2012 he was brought down in his first attempt at the National Course, while in 2013 he also failed to finish, jockey Paul Carberry pulling him up during the 4m4f contest.
