Maykir and Young John are the two horses to follow on the sand

"Maykir's regular rider Marco Ghiani offsets the 4lb rise from his recent success, so effectively we can back an unpenalised winner."

Back Maykir @ 4.03/1 in the 14:50 at Southwell

With racing on the Fibresand at Southwell on Sunday, Alan Dudman is backing a couple of proven performers at the track to win...

John to outdo Southwell regulars

13:50 Southwell - Back Young John @ 4.57/2

All eight runners that line up in the 13:50 have won on the Fibresand, and it's a proper collection of 7f specialists at this grade.

I am sticking with Mike Murphy's Young John - who goes back up in trip after two solid efforts over shorter.

He finished second at the track in December in a better grade and he has lots of form tied in with the likes of Liamba and Equidae. Indeed he beat the former here back in November in a well run race.

The excellent Laura Pearson takes off 7lb too and the horse is still well treated on his 2019 form.

Maykir to finish off the best on the sand

14:50 Southwell - Back Maykir @ 4.03/1

Maykir's galloping style really does lend itself to finishing well at Southwell, and this horse produced a personal best off a good pace last time out at the track to take his record over course and distance to 3-4.

While a couple of his rivals look well treated, Maykir's regular rider Marco Ghiani offsets the 4lb rise from his recent success, so effectively we can back an unpenalised winner.

Ghiani had him in exactly the prime position over CD last time, as he came to rails on the stands' side and produced a fairly dour performance with his high knee action.

He could outstay the field again at around the 4.03/1 mark.
