Find Me a 100 Winner: Two long-shots chanced at 109/1 and 199/1 for European Masters success

Two picks from Steve in the win and place markets

The PGA Tour is taking a week off after last week's FedEx Cup deciding Tour Championship at East Lake but the DP World Tour heads for Crans Montana for the spectacular Omega European Masters.

The cream rises to the top at Crans most years and 540.0539/1 chance, Sebastian Soderburg, is the only triple-figure priced winner in the last decade so we may be up against it, but I've chanced two long-shots, starting with one of last week's fancies...

Omega European Masters bet #1 - Marcus Helligkilde @ 110.0109/1

Marcus Helligkilde is yet to win on the DP World Tour, but the three-time HotelPlanner Tour champ has just spent more than 18 months out of the game due to a severe neck injury.

After a tough period, where a diagnosis couldn't be found, Helligkilde finally underwent a procedure to address a pinched nerve, which involved the removal of a disc in his neck and the insertion of a metal plate.

He only returned to the game in April and for much of 2026, a victory had looked highly unlikely, but he's found a bit of form of late.

Following a 14^th and a missed cut on the Alps Tour in April, Helligkilde put up disappointing form figures on the DP World Tour reading MC-MC-MC-14-MC-MC but since his weekend off at the co-sanctioned ISCO Championship in the states in July, he's finished 15^th in the co-sanctioned Corales Puntacana Championship, seventh in the Danish Golf Championship, and 26^th at the British Masters last week, which could and perhaps should have been better.

Having started the final round six off the lead in a tie for 16^th, the Dane was on the fringes of contention after birdies at two and three on Sunday and at that point, he was still in front of his playing partner, Joe Dean, who eventually went on to win the event by three.

Sitting tied for seventh and well in the hunt, Helligkilde found water off the tee on the sixth and a bogey there and another at nine ended his charge.

A double-bogey at the 18^th saw him tumble down the leaderboard but playing alongside Dean, who shot a remarkable nine-under-par 63, could inspire the 29-year-old and I'm happy to chance him again.

This is Helligkilde's third visit to Crans where he's looking to improve on his 29^th on debut in 2022 and a 12^th place finish in 2023.

That second visit was very encouraging given he sat tied for 106^th after opening the event with a one-over-par 71 before rounds of 64, 67 and 65 demonstrated his obvious suitability to the track.

Omega European Masters bet #2 - Fabrizio Zanotti @ 200.0199/1

In the last 30 years, Colin Mongomerie, Lee Westwood, Robert Karlsson, Ernie Els, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Sergio Garcia and Thriston Lawrence have all won the European Masters at Crans and the BMW International Open at Munchen Nord-Eichenried in Germany.

Thomas Bjorn has won the two events twice and the likes of Matt Fitzpatrick, Alex Noren and Martin Kaymer should have won both. And if we go back a little further, Jamie Spence only won a couple of times on the DP World Tour, in Morocco in 2000 and at Crans in 1992, but he also finished second at Munchen Nord-Eichenried in 1998.

Those two venues appear to correlate really nicely and so does one of the BMW International's other venues, Gut Larchenhof.

The BMW International has only been staged at Gut Larchenhof four times but two of the winners of the event there, Danny Willett and Matt Wallace, have both won at Crans and Crans winners, Montgomerie and Garcia, have both won the now defunct German Masters at Gut Larchenhof.

With all that in mind, I'm happy to chance the in-form Paraguayan veteran, Fabrizio Zanotti, who won the BMW International Open at Gut Larchenhof in 2014.

Zanotti, who was third at Crans nine years ago, has finished seventh and ninth in his last two starts on the DP World Tour so he arrives in fair form, and he looks a decent bet to finish inside the top 10 again at around 16/117.00.

In addition to backing him to finish inside the top 10, I was also happy to take a small chance in the win market on the Betfair Exchange.

At 43, he's looking for just his third victory on the DP World Tour so he can't be described as prolific but 200/1201.00 is fair for a small wager.
