Hunter Mahan

Hunter Mahan is a professional golf player who was born in California in 1982.

He has been on the PGA Tour since 2003 where he has been successful on five occasions, two of which were in World Golf Championship events.

As an amateur, Mahan won the 5A Texas State High School Golf Championship and the U.S. Junior Amateur in 1999.

Four years later, the Californian born golfer turned professional. He gained his PGA Tour card for the 2004 season.

Mahan had to wait until 2007 for his first title on the Tour. It came in the Travelers Championship in Connecticut. After scoring 265 from his four rounds, which equated to -15, he went into a playoff with Jay Williamson where he picked up a birdie in the first extra hole to win the event.

The success in Cromwell made up for his playoff defeat in the 2004 Reno-Tahoe Open. The American was among four players who finished on -10. Vaughn Taylor came out on top during the extra holes against Mahan, Stephen Allan and Scott McCarron.

Mahan's consistency on the PGA Tour earned him a place in the 2008 Ryder Cup team. The United States beat Europe 16 ½ - 11 ½ in Louisville, Kentucky. Two years later he was with the US in their defeat in Wales at Celtic Manor.

2010 proved to be a big year for the Texas resident. Early in the campaign he was successful in the Waste Management Phoenix Open by one stroke ahead of Rickie Fowler.
The year got better for him in August as he claimed his first World Golf Championship title in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. His -12 score in Ohio was enough for a two shot win.

Mahan showed his liking for match play golf by winning the 2012 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in the desert in Arizona. Victories over Zach Johnson, Y.E Yang, Steve Stricker, Matt Kuchar, Matt Wilson and Roy McIlroy helped him to the $1.4million prize.

Two months later, the American continued his run of form to land the Shell Houston Open in April in Texas where he lives. He ended the final day in front of Sweden's Carl Pettersson by one shot.

Mahan's best run in a major championship came in the 2013 U.S. Open as he finished in a tie for fourth in the event won by Justin Rose at the Merion Golf Club.
