Genesis Invitational 2026 - Contenders based on current form
It's impossible to ignore the chances of Scottie Scheffler this week, despite the same being said about him on his last two appearances. But if we're being honest, the world number one should have won both of those events but for a very poor start to each. He was +2 after the first round in Phoenix, 10 shots behind the leader, but he somehow recovered to finish third, beaten just one shot. It was almost identical last week. He was 10 shots off the lead after round one again, but this time finished joint fourth, two shots behind. Put simply, if he starts well here then he should be incredible hard to beat.
Hideki Matsuyama always seems to play well at this time of the year and has once again been in fine form at the start of 2026, finishing inside the top 13 on all four starts to date, including being runner-up at the Phoenix Open where he really should have won, and eighth last week in a top class AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Prior to those four events he finished last year with a win at the Hero World Challenge and he won this very event in 2024 on this course, so he puts loads of ticks in the right boxes this week.
Genesis Invitational 2026 - Contenders based on cours form
Xander Schauffele is showing signs of returning to his best form with a top 20 finish at Pebble Beach last week being his best performance so far this year. That bodes well for this week at a venue where he always seems to contend. In seven appearances at Riviera he's never finished worse than 33rd, but he also has five top 15 finishes here including finishing fourth on his last appearance in 2024.
A disappointing 58th place finish last week at Pebble Beach can easily be ignore given that in his two starts prior to that he recorded a top 15 finish at the Dubai Desert Classic and a top 10 finish at the Phoenix Open. And now he returns to a venue where he has done really well in all of his four appearances. Hovland has finished in the top 20 in all of those four starts at Riviera including a braces of top five finishes in 2021 and 2022.
