Find Me a 100 Winner: Three long-shots chanced at between 129/1 and 289/1

Great event for long-shots

This is the eighth and final edition of the Rocket Classic and that's a shame because it's been a great event for long-shots.

The inaugural winner, Nate Lashley, was a 1000.0999/1 chance before the off, Cam Davis has won the event twice, at 120.0119/1 in 2021, and again two years ago at 75.074/1, and last year's winner, Aldrich Potgieter, won at 200.0199/1, beating fellow outsiders, Max Greyserman and Chris Kirk, in extra time.

Davis is so badly out of form that he can be backed at around 500.0499/1 and the defending champ, Potgieter, is trading at 95.094/1, but it's one of the two men beaten in last year's playoff who I like best at a triple-figure price, Max Greyserman.

Rocket Classic bet#1 - Max Greyserman @ 130.0129/1

Greyserman is yet to get off the mark on the PGA Tour, but he's come close three times, and twice on a Donald Ross designed course.

In addition to his playoff defeat here 12 months ago, and his second-place finish in the Baycurrent Classic in Japan in October, he traded at as short as 1.061/18 to win the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club two years ago, finishing second to another Donald Ross specialist, Aaron Rai.

Rai went on to win the US PGA Championship at the Ross-designed Aronimink in May, with Greyserman finishing 14^th, despite being out of form beforehand.

Greyserman sat third at halfway at Aronimink and his liking for Ross layout goes back to his first visit to one when he finished fourth in the Knoxville Open at Holston Hills on the Korn Ferry Tour back in 2021.

The 31-year-old was on my radar for this event before he shot a seven-under-par 64 on Sunday at the 3M Open and he looks nicely priced at 130.0129/1. There's the added incentive that he needs a good week to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

As highlighted in the preview, there are now just two events to go before the FedEx Cup Playoffs begin so anyone outside the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings needs to get a shift on to make it into the field at the FedEx St Jude Championship in a couple of weeks. Greyserman currently sit in 99^th place.

Rocket Classic bet#2 - Chandler Phillips @ 200.0199/1

My second selection, Chandler Phillips, sits 86^th in the FedEx Cup standings so he too needs a good week or two and there's plenty of evidence to suggest he can perform nicely again here.

Phillips arrives at Detroit Golf Club in decent nick with current form figures reading 15-MC-15-15-3. His only weekend off in the last few months came at the US Open.

Although he doesn't have an abundance of Donald Ross form, he finished 13^th here last year, after weekend rounds of 64 and 67, despite being out of form at the time and he finished 34^th in the Wyndham Championship having sat tied for 12^th at halfway.

Rocket Classic bet#3 - Taylor Pendrith @ 290.0289/1

Last and quite possibly least, I'm going to chance one of last week's disappointing selections, Taylor Pendrith, who followed his missed cut at the Corales Puntacana Championship with another weekend off at the 3M Open.

They're obviously two poor performances but it's less than a month since he lost in a playoff at the ISCO Championship at the third extra hole and if he's going to bounce back, it could be here.

Pendrith finished tied for second here in 2022, having led by a stroke with 18 to play, and he finished 14^th 12 months later, having been tied for the lead at halfway so it's clearly a course he likes.

The 35-year-old Canadian is an inconsistent sort, but he won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson two years ago and, currently ranking 82^nd, he's another who needs a decent week to make the Playoffs.
