Johnson has been as high as number five in the world rankings and is one of the longest drivers in the world. He has won at least once in each of his seven seasons on the PGA Tour so far.

The American had plenty of success as an amateur and was part of the US team that won the Walker Cup in 2007. Later that year he turned professional. His 14th place finish in the qualifying school in December earned him a PGA Tour card for 2008.

On his debut season, the big hitter won the Turning Resort Championship in October. He was successful by one shot ahead of Australia Robert Allenby.

The following year he also prevailed in February in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. That tournament was reduced to 54 rounds due to bad weather. All three of Johnson's rounds were in the 60s as he won by four shots.

The American returned to Pebble Beach in 2010 to defend his title. Despite a 74 on the final day, he finished ahead of David Duval and J.B Holmes by just one stroke.

Pebble Beach was also used for the 2010 US Open where it looked like Johnson was going to break his maiden major tag. He led going into the fourth round by three shots but had a nightmare Sunday as he shot 82 which pushed him all the way down the field to finish in a tie for eighth in the event won by Graeme McDowell.

In 2011 he also went very close to winning the Open Championship at Royal St Georges. He finished strongly this time for a tie for second behind Darren Clarke who won the event at the age of 42.

Johnson continued his good form by winning The Barclays in September 2010, while further success followed in the 2012 FedEx St Jude Classic and 2013 Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. The latter was an invitational event for winners on the previous season's PGA Tour.

The opening World Golf Championship win of Johnson's career came in the HSBC Champions tournament held in Shanghai in 2013 in one of the opening events of the 2013/2014 campaign. His margin of victory was three strokes over Ian Poulter. It also brought up his eighth win in seven seasons.
