Believe it or not, Gonzalo Higuain was born in France. His father, Jorge Higuain, was a professional footballer plying his trade in France and on the 10th December 1987 young Gonzalo was born. As a result, he holds dual French-Argentine nationality, but ironically he cannot speak French.

Higuain came through the ranks at Buenos Aries club River Plate and at the age of 18 he made his debut for the club. By 2006, Higuain had established himself in the side, while his two goals in the Superclasico derby against Boca Juniors endeared him to the fans. In December of that year, though, Spanish giants Real Madrid came sniffing, and signed the striker for €12 million. In 35 league games for River Plate, Higuain scored 13 goals.
Goals were not easy to come by in his first two seasons at the club; in 44 appearances he had scored a wholly unremarkable 10 goals, but he did manage to win two La Liga titles. However, the 2008-2009 season was when Higuain truly proved himself as a potent goalscorer. He scored 22 goals in 34 league games but his Madrid side finished nine points behind Barcelona.
The 2009-2010 season proved to be even more fruitful for Higuain, as he notched up an incredible 27 goals in just 32 matches, keeping €35million striker Karim Benzema on the sidelines. Again, though, Madrid missed out on the Spanish domestic title to Barcelona.
Higuain's role become slightly more marginalised as new Madrid manager Jose Mourinho opted for Benzema. He featured just 17 times in the 2010-2011 season. However, in the 2011-2012 season he played 35 times, scored 22 goals, and won his third La Liga title at the club.
After the 2012-2013 season, Higuain was actively pursued by both Arsenal and Napoli. He eventually signed for Napoli for a reported £34.5million. In total, he played 190 times for Madrid and scored 107 goals.
For Argentina Higuain has proved to be very successful. He has made 35 appearances, scoring 20 goals and contributing 11 assists. Despite having a good record for Argentina, he has never been able to help them achieve any silverware. He was involved in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, becoming just the third Argentinian player to score a hat-trick in the competition after his exploits against South Korea. He netted once more in the last-16 against Mexico before Argentina were knocked out by Germany.
