Formed by a group led by Englishmen Herbert Kilpin and Alfred Edwards in 1899, A.C Milan or Milan are an Italian football club based in Milan, Lombardy, currently competing in Serie A. Nicknamed I Rossoneri (the black and reds), Milan have long been considered one of European football's dominant forces.

The club play their home games at the San Siro, which boasts a total capacity of just over 80,000, sharing the stadium with bitter city-rivals Inter. Unsurprisingly, Milan's main rivals are Inter. The games between the two Milan sides are called Derby della Madonnina, and the matches rank as one of world football's fiercest local derbies, not to mention one of the most widely watched.
The club has spent all but two seasons in its history playing in the top flight of Italian football, winning 18 league titles to put themselves joint second behind Juventus as Italy's most successful Serie A team, ironically tying for second place with Inter. The club have also won the Coppa Italia five times, as well as six Supercoppa Italiana crowns, a record by an Italian team.
Aside from the UEFA Cup/Europa League, Milan have won every major competition in which they have competed. As well as their success domestically, Milan can currently count themselves as the joint most successful club in world football in terms of international honours, winning 18 UEFA and FIFA titles to tie with Argentinean club Boca Juniors at the top of an illustrious list.
Former Italian captain Paolo Maldini holds the record for overall appearances for Milan, making 902 appearances for the club between 1985 and 2009, with the defender also topping Milan's list of most European appearances with 168. Fellow defender Franco Baresi is second behind Maldini in the list, playing 719 games for the club during his 20-year career with Milan.
Former Swedish striker Gunnar Nordahl is the club's all-time leading goalscorer, having scored 221 goals during his Milan career; 210 of those goals were scored in league competition, making him also the club's record goalscorer in the league. He also holds the record for the most goals scored in a single season; he scored 38 goals in all competitions during the 1950-1951 season.
The current owner of the club is controversial former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who has owned the club since 1986. Vice-president Adriano Galliani has been at the club since Berlusconi took control in 1986, during which time he has overseen the majority of Milan's transfers, including high-profile deals including the likes Zlatan Ibrahimović, Kaká, Robinho and Mario Balotelli.
