He currently plays for Warwickshire and England as a batsman. His performances for the Three Lions in 2011 ensured he became the ICC and ECB cricketer of the year.

As a youngster, Trott represented South Africa at under-15 and under-19 level. He got his first taste of domestic cricket for Boland as he spent a year playing for the club based in the Western Cape Province.

In 2001, the Cape Town born batsman represented the Western Province, before moving to England a year later where he signed for Warwickshire. Due to Trott holding a British passport, he did not need to sign as an overseas player.

On his debut for Warwickshire second XI in 2002, he made 245 runs. Just a season later he was promoted to the first team and he rewarded the selectors with a century in his first County Championship game. The South African born player finished with 134 against Sussex when opening the batting.

His first taste of international cricket came in the Twenty20 format. He played twice for England in 2007 against the West Indies in their 1-1 drawn series. He was eligible to play for the Three Lions because his grandparents are English.

Following a consistent run in the Country Championship, Trott was called up to the England national side for the Fifth Ashes Test against Australia in 2009. In the match, he scored a century to become just the 18th player in history to hit a three figure innings while on debut for England.

In 2010, Trott hit his highest score for England in a match against Bangladesh at Lords. He managed to record 226 runs as the hosts made 505 in the opening innings.
Trott remained with the national team through the year and toured with them down under where the Three Lions retained the urn in a 3-1 victory. He scored a century against
Australia at the MCG during the five-match series where his side won the final two games of the campaign.

The number three batsman sealed his third Ashes series win in 2013 when England came out on top 3-0 on home soil again. He scored 295 runs from the five Test matches, ending with an average of 29.30 from the 10 innings.
