Australia and India put red-ball cricket back on the radar
Short-form cricket and the IPL have dominated the Exchange over the past few years, but a thrilling match between two fierce rivals showed that Test Cricket betting can still compete with the volumes shorter formats.
The Boxing Day Test at the MCG was packed with drama across all five days. Nineteen-year-old Sam Konstas made an impressive debut, setting the tone for an action-filled match. On the final day, India's opener Yashasvi Jaiswal fought valiantly to try secure a draw for the visitors but was dismissed for 84 with just 21 overs remaining.
An impressive £101 million was matched on the Exchange during this Test, placing it in the top 10 all-time for volume in Test cricket and the highest for any Test played in Australia.
2025 - The year of the Expert Fee
At the end of last year Betfair announced the introduction of the Expert Fee, a new pricing structure for customers replacing Premium Charge.
Rather than just using lifetime profitability, the Expert Fee uses the gross profit from the last 52 active weeks to determine the rate that you will pay. It's a dynamic fee structure that adjusts your rate with your profitability and can return to 0% if your 52 week P&L dropped below £25k.
An account may only be considered for the Expert Fee if all of the following apply:
· Last 52 Active Week Gross P&L > £25,000
· Lifetime Gross P&L > £0
· Lifetime Markets Bet > 100
At the start of each week, we will determine your fee rate using your last 52 weeks of activity, as follows:
In the first two weeks of the Expert Fee we saw a 58% reduction in the number of payers versus what it would have been under the old Premium Charge for the same period.

Five-second bet delay integrated into more football competitions
In the last newsletter we spoke about the integration of the Sportradar football incident feed. This work has now been completed. As a result, the number of matches with a five-second bet delay is expected to increase from 80% to 88%, with further improvements pushing this figure over 90% by March.
Throughout the first part of this year, we will be reducing the bet delay to five seconds across several competitions, covering all leagues that Sportradar has exclusive access to.
Exchange stability continuing to improve year on year
Improving stability and performance of Exchange platform has been a major focus for tech teams across Betfair over the past few years, and 2024 was no different.
In 2024, Exchange uptime increased to 99.97% from 99.96% back in 2023. Across the year, 9/12 months had 100% uptime which was again an increase on 2023 and continued the steady year-on-year improvements across all availability and stability metrics.
In 2025, we will continue to build on the stability improvements made last year to ensure we give Betfair customers the best Betting Exchange experience possible.
