Quiz question for years to come: who hit the first-ever post-season home run to have gone to instant replay to determine whether it should stand? Answer: Alex Rodriguez.
Sabathia throws the ball extremely hard and it will do well to last beyond six innings.
"I think this game could be a high scoring affair and the over 8.5 runs is where my money is going tonight."
Nick Shiambouros talks us through the somewhat controversial events of Game 3 where video replays were used for the first time in post-season history. Onto Game 4 we go though and a chance for the Philles to put things right....
The New York Yankees came from behind to beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-5 in a game full of excitement and controversy late on Saturday.
Andy Pettitte threw a slider at the bottom of the strike zone to Jayson Werth in the second inning and he duly smashed it for a home run. The Phillies added two more runs and built up a healthy three run lead.
In a controversial fourth inning Alex Rodriguez hit a double with a big hit that bounced off a camera. The Umpires then consulted instant replays for the first time in post-season history and awarded New York a two run homer. After this decision, Philadelphia pitcher Cole Hamels went to pieces and gave up three more runs in the fifth.
As previously stated, instant replay is only used to establish the fact that a home run has scored. The evidence has to be conclusive for the original decision to be overturned and I do not think that was the case.
I rarely talk through my pocket but that decision changed the whole complexity of the game.
On Sunday night the Phillies have a chance to even the series and start Joe Blanton, who has had a twelve day rest. Manager Charlie Manuel has decided to save Cliff Lee as he would be operating on three days rest.
Blanton is a very experienced pitcher and has played well in pressure situations. He does not have the greatest record against the Yankees but he does have a decent variety of pitches.
New York have gambled and will start CC Sabathia, who will be pitching on three days rest. Sabathia throws the ball extremely hard and it will do well to last beyond six innings.
I think this game could be a high scoring affair and the over 8.5 runs is where my money is going tonight.
Philadelphia is in a must win situation now as they trail the series 2-1.Once again we are in for another evening of drama and excitement in this great series.
