Carnivale of Poker Returns to The Rio

Some of the highlights of the Carnivale of Poker include the $1,675 Main Event and a special $5,000 buy-in Open-Face Chinese event that is sure to attract some of the biggest names in the business to The Rio’s felt.

Each year, before the start of the World Series of Poker, members of the media take part in a conference call where they have the chance to put questions to the likes of WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart and WSOP Tournament Director Jack Effel.

This year's conference call featured nothing too out of the ordinary except for the announcement that the Carnivale of Poker festival is set to return at the 2013 WSOP.

The Carnivale of Poker ran from 1998-2000 and was, at the time, the second largest poker event in the world. Relaunched and revamped for 2013, the Carnivale of Poker will boast 21 tournaments with buy-ins ranging from $365 up to $1,675, similar to the extremely popular WSOP Circuit events and should be very well attended.

According to the conference call, the majority of the Carnivale of Poker tournaments will be No Limit Hold'em events, but on days when the WSOP has no 17:00 starts, the tournaments will switch to a number of different mixed games. Each even kicks off at 11:00 on Monday and Tuesday throughout the WSOP, which gives players plenty of opportunity to sample what it is like to play in a WSOP event for a fraction of the cost.

Some of the highlights of the Carnivale of Poker include the $1,675 Main Event and a special $5,000 buy-in Open-Face Chinese event that is sure to attract some of the biggest names in the business to The Rio's felt.

Although this side event festival should be well attended anyway, the WSOP are making each tournament more attractive by awarding the winner of each of the 21 events a custom-made gold and diamond medallion. Furthermore, players will earn points based on their finishing positions in the Carnivale of Poker events and the top 10 points earners at the end of the festival will win a share of $100,000.

In an article earlier in the week, we touched on the various poker festivals that The Rios rivals run alongside the WSOP. With the reintroduction of the Carnivale of Poker poker players, especially those with limited bankrolls, are going to be spoiled for choice if they decide to head to Las Vegas this summer.
