How many players the 2012 $250,000 Super High Roller attracts is anybody's guess but now that it is an official event and will therefore award Global Poker Index points (if enough players enter) then there could be field of 30 plus on the cards.
There was a little controversy at this year's Aussie Millions when an impromptu super high roller tournament that boasted a buy-in of $250,000 took place, which Erik Seidel won to propel himself to the top of the All-time Money Listings.
Daniel Negreanu was one of the people not happy with the tournament suddenly appearing from nowhere but the Canadian should be kept happy because the same tournament has been made official.
There were fears that the tournament would not go ahead in any capacity but a source close to PokerNews revealed that at least five players, Seidel, Sam Trickett, Patrik Antonius, James Bord and Tony Bloom have confirmed they will be participating and that a number of other high-profile players such as Tom Dwan, Dan Shak and Daniel Cates have all shown an interest in playing.
The inaugural event saw 20 players pay the massive $250,000 entry fee creating a prizepool $5,000,000 and the largest money bubble in history. The unfortunate bubble boy was Wang Qiang who managed to run the monster hand that is 3h2d straight into the AsAh of the eventual winner Seidel. With Qiang's elimination the three surviving players were guaranteed at least $1,100,000 for their efforts.
David Benyamine eventually finished third, Trickett second for $1,500,000 and Seidel $2,500,000. Since then both Trickett and Seidel have had the year of their lives, British pro Trickett going on to win the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event and making final tables like they are going out of fashion whilst Seidel has gone on to win a further $4,000,000 from tournament around the world.
