Breeders' Cup Saturday: A guide to playing the $2 million Pick 4

There are a variety of Tote bets available on Betfair on Saturday night at Santa Anita, with three catching the eye in particular. The early Pick 4 boasts a pool guaranteed at $1 million, while the Ultra Pick 6 and the late Pick 4 both have a guarantee of $2 million, and it is the late Pick 4 which I'm going to set my sights on. 

Our bet kicks off at 22:18, with the Breeders' Cup Turf and runs through to the Classic at 00:30. Some of the best races on offer at the meeting are featured, so we can enjoy the action as well as, with any luck, watching our Betfair accounts receive a healthy boost.

22:18 - Turf
The Turf looks to be between defending champion St Nicholas Abbey and Point of Entry, a four-year-old trained in the US by Claude R. McGaughey III. With the luxury of not needing to separate them we will stick them both in, confident in the fact that we have the winner covered.

22:58 - Sprint
This contest is nowhere near as clear cut, so we will need three on our side. The first to take is last year's winner Amazombie who, although failing to fire last time, was right at the top of his game on his penultimate start and ought to go well. The Lumber Guy has already achieved a smart level of form and has the potential to improve further, whilst Coil comes into this fresher than most and seems versatile with regards to tactics.

23:40 - Mile
In similar style to the Turf we have a contest that pitches the might of Aidan O'Brien against the US, this team featuring Excelebration and Wise Dan. Excelebration requires almost no introduction but what does need pointing out is the fact that he improved on his latest start, when demolishing his rivals in the QEII at Ascot, and he is likely to take a good deal of beating. Wise Dan could well be up to the task, however, just 1 lb behind Excelebration on Timeform weight-adjusted ratings and currently ranked as the best horse in the US. 

00:30 - Classic
The Classic is no easy puzzle to solve. Game On Dude probably deserves to win but the temptation is to take him on with three of his rivals, namely Mucho Macho Man, Ron The Greek and Flat Out. In truth I don't really know what's going to happen here, but the hope is that we can land the spoils.
