Two years ago Eye Onthe Veto completed the big Romford double and I fancy Go Big Hitter can emulate his achievements this evening having skated up in the Champion Stakes back in September.

Switch on the box tonight and get set for another feast of top class televised greyhound action as Sky Sports visits Romford, where the Essex Vase final holds pride of place.

Romford serves up a tasty treat tonight with the Essex Vase final heading up a live eight race card on Sky Sports.

Two years ago Eye Onthe Veto completed the big Romford double, by winning the Champion Stakes prior to taking this end of year prize, and I fancy Go Big Hitter can emulate his achievements this evening having skated up in the Champion Stakes back in September.

Romford, by virtue of its relatively tight circuit, attracts course specialists, and having won five of his last seven races over the 575m trip, Dean Childs' runner certainly fits the bill. While I foolishly attempted to take him on in last week's semi-finals, he put egg on my face big style with another scintillating front running performance.

An early lead tonight admittedly is almost essential, especially with progressive Bourne Masons drawn on his immediate inside. But as regards the trap three draw, while not perfect, it's by means a massive hindrance either as a 3-4 record in the white jacket over CD confirms - all those wins having been achieved from the front. His bigger price, as Eye On the Storm proved for this column in the Eclipse final last week, more than compensates for the tougher draw.

Bourne Masons, who only stepped up to six bends in October, could hardly have taken to the new discipline any better, having won three of his eight races over the longer trip and finished second in the other five. Overcoming a potentially difficult trap five draw the other night, he has been rewarded with an excellent trap two pitch tonight and it would be foolish not to respect his chances. For those looking to maximize the likelihood of a return, a small saver is recommended.

The supporting card is littered with Romford regulars, which can hardly be a bad thing for form analysis. I'm especially sweet on Me Buddy in the 21.10. Agonisingly touched off in a similar race on Champion Stakes night, I'm convinced Matt Dartnall's runner is back to his best judged on his last two wins. A winner of 5/7 from trap 1 over the trip this season, he is taken to make all and rates the best bet on the card.

Danbury Dodger's return to the red jacket is enough to give him the vote in the first of two eight-bend races at 20.00. Jim Reynolds' charge may find Droopys Kirbee a bigger danger than more fancied Greedy Bridie, who may not clear the host of early paced runners drawn inside him.

Romford regular Melodys Comet, trained by Richard Yeates, can end a short losing sequence in the other 750m race at 21.25. Back under his optimum conditions, having won his last four starts over the 750m CD, the Cesarewitch runner-up can get first run on last weekend's maiden marathon winner Bodell Clare.

Filingplusdogcom does not win too often, but is a big price for the opener at 19.40 now back in trap one. David Mullins' veteran has won his last two outings under similar conditions, and in an open heat can prove worthy of small support.

Raving Black, one of three Essex Vase beaten semi-finalists, can defy a trap two draw to claim the 20.50 for Seamus Cahill, while for those happy to play at shorter odds, King Lee (20.35) will take plenty of stopping in the puppy contest.
