All the latest news from the last week in the world of greyhound racing...
BARNFIELD ROCKY was ultra-professional in winning the Peterborough Puppy Derby final live on Sky on Tuesday. Landing another big-race score for the Sam Poots team, the dog looks a real winner, and was certainly not stopping in front. How far he can progress is open to debate, but one which looks set to progress still further is third-placed WESTMEAD CARL.
Pat Rosney's dog showed cracking pace in behind and some would say he was a shade unlucky not to bustle up the winner even more than he did. However, that would be to crab the winner and he was not for being beaten in front.
However, keeps tabs with Westmead Carl. Nick Savva has one of two oustanding litters on the round and he has kept Westmead Logan (Carl's brother) who equalled the Peterborough track record in the heats. But Westmead Carl should win plenty for the Rosney camp.
Probably the hardest card on Sky for a while saw quite a few shocks and big-priced winners, but one or two dogs stood out for future reference. ARD BEAUTY should continue to pay her way. She got close to shock winner Vigorous Pat, even after finding her path blocked on a number of occasions around the tight contours of the Fengate track.
ARELLO also goes nto the notebook. A preferred front runner, he was no match for all-the-way winning favourite Bandit Blue but never gave up in behind and is clearly in good heart.
ONECO LEADER was a touch clumsy in behind in the maiden stayers' race and, with a clearer run, might have won the race. But she proved she stays well and more of a test could just be interesting, while DROOPYS KILLIFI showed a glimpse of what might be coming with an easy win the puppy stayers. It was a very nice performance on debut.
It will also be interesting to see how shock marathon winner Whinfell Olivia fares after running past Barnfield Brooke as if she was standing. An amazing effort and she could be a real star in the making.
HENLOW will continue to have an impact on the open-race scene following Bob Morton's takeover there earlier this year. Morton is of course Nick Savva's leading owner and a number of the young Savva superstars were again put through their paces last week, including recent Peterborough (equal) track record holder, Westmead Logan.
But two dogs who come out of that card with particular credit are Liz McNair's DROOPYS BOGART, who beat a nice dog in Charlie Lister's Bandicoot Mafi, and DROOPYS ZACH.
The latter finished second over a too-short 550m, but it was his first run for there in weeks and, while perhaps he should win more than he does, nevertheless is difficult to ignore in any race he takes part in. Droopys Bogart won in a pretty decent time and looks ready to step up at any point after winning on what was only his second start in this country.
He had been knocked over on debut at Coventry but six weeks later was impressive off the front at Henlow, and must have plenty of scope.
