There will have been celebrations all around for those who put their faith in Mark Wallis' dogs.
"Only a dead-heat spoiled the almost perfect St Leger final for the Suffolk handler as he landed the Derby/St Leger double on a raucous night in south-west London.
Kinda Easy and Droopys Zach played their part in another chapter in the life of the champion trainer, and his kennel continue to carry all before them in 2009 - and you know their appetite for competitions is as strong as ever."
All the latest goings-on from the ever-busy ever-buzzing world of greyhounds.
ST LEGER night at Wimbledon ensured The Lord had plenty to get stuck into on the winner-finding front . . .
WIMBLEDON kicks off this latest column, and what a night for Mark Wallis.
Only a dead-heat spoiled the almost perfect St Leger final for the Suffolk handler as he landed the Derby/St Leger double on a raucous night in south-west London.
Kinda Easy and Droopys Zach played their part in another chapter in the life of the champion trainer, and his kennel continue to carry all before them in 2009 - and you know their appetite for competitions is as strong as ever.
Wherever he races, Droopys Zach cannot be dismissed. He can throw the odd bad one in, but it's very rare these days and he can catch anything.
He didn't really do anything wrong on Tuesday, just failing to catch a dog, Kinda Easy, who had a great make-up and reached peak at the right time. Perfectly trained, in other words.
On the supporting card, Westmead Carl looked every inch a Derby player next year and Nick Savva has a pair of brothers that might, just might also rewrite history given luck. Carl and Westmead Logan are that good.
The other one who caught the eye in this puppy race was Forest May. Heather Dimmock's dog showed all-round pace and wasn't overawed or out of place in the line-up. He is worth watching in future races.
Rockburst Megan definitely showed pace in the bitches' race won by Droopys Judith, but is crying out for a wider draw, certainly round Wimbledon. She didn't want trap one, which is worth noting come Oaks time.
Swift Ninja won the six-bend race well, but in behind Bubbly Finbarr showed enough to warrant backing when he returns to 575m at Romford, while Greedy Bridie was as game as a pebble as she chased home the winner.
Midway Skipper has always generally had the edge over Flying Winner, and so it proved in the marathon, but it is nevertheless a fond farewell to the latter who wowed us over six and eight bends, and goes down as one of the most popular bitches of recent times.
Lenson Bolt was in a track-record breaking form over 460m as he blitzed a really good field. Even though the bowser had just gone round, speeding up the surface, don't crab the run. He has still only had a handful of race remember,.
In behind, Delwood Jake remains a real nice type who can take on a beat a number of dogs over this sort of trip, while Hillcross Orion looks to be coming nicely to hand a short four-bend trips can see the best in Angie Kibble's runner.
Eye Onthe Storm proved what we were all thinking before the 480m, that he is a Derby winner waiting to happen, but don't write off Droopys Bogart. He has got scope to come again after a relatively light campaign of late. The McNairs still love him!
NOTTINGHAM continues to lead the way on Mondays and is building up nicely to the Eclipse. From their meeting last week, keep an eye on these.
Farloe Goblin, having just only his first race in the UK, looks a nice type for Kim Billingham judged on a third to impressive Dynamo Hondo; Prodigy Kingdom has come through the grades nicely at Harlow and has stepped up into open-class well judged on a speedy second to Judicial Ace in a Nottingham sprint, while Milly Marina also won well on the same card and can take a step up in class in her stride.
