Savva hopeful of retaining Derby crown
Nick Savva is confident that his Derby duo can progress through to the final.
The handler, who trained Westmead Hawk to glory in the last two renewals of the premier classic, is be doubly represented in the semi-finals as Westmead Lord and Dilemmas Flight take their places in the first and second semis respectively.
Westmead Lord is the only wide seed in the first event and the backers have been happy to support him accordingly. Initially trading at 5.2 in Betfair's ante-post market after the announcement of the draw, he is presently available to back at 3.9.
Following the news that Farloe Premier will not take his chance after sustaining a mid-race injury, five dogs will be chasing the first three qualification slots for the July 7 showpiece.
Speaking to the Racing Post, Savva said: "Westmead Lord missed his break on Tuesday. I don't know why. He probably had to put more effort into that race than he's ever done before.
"He'll be fine by Saturday, it's not a worry. Loyal Honcho looks the one to beat on the evidence of Tuesday, but you can't predict what might happen."
Oaks heroine, Dilemmas Flight is reported to be bouncing at home following a four-length beating of Directors Chair in an impressive 28:68 and a meeting against that rival and reigning ante post favourite, Loyal Honcho, awaits.
The handler added: "The bitch has hit peak form at the right time and I'm very happy with her."
Loyal Honcho still heads the outright winner's market at present at 3.75, with Westmead Lord available at 3.9. Dilemmas Flight is currently rated as third best at 8.2.
The races are to be shown live on Sky TV on Saturday evening and a full service will be available on Betfair.
