"Little Jig is equally effective on or off the pace. Take [1.8] or bigger."
Darrell Williams scours the Sunday cards for the best bets...
Coventry's newly instigated Warwickshire Oaks provided a good betting medium for us last Sunday with this column hitting three of the four heat winners. However, I'm intending to play in just one of the semi-finals tonight, with Little Jig taken to improve her winning sequence to four races in the second heat at 20:15.
Little Jig looks to have improved for the switch to in-form Chris Allsopp, having won the recent Pride Of The West at Swindon in track-record time. While she was marginally slower than tonight's rival Droopys Flo in their respective first round heats, the latter can be hit and miss at the traps, and while I freely accept that she has won three of her last five outings, she probably has to lead, where as the selection is equally effective on or off the pace. Take [1.8] or bigger.
I did consider a lay of Sunoak Crystal in the other semi-final (20:00), who was beaten in the first round, but the Laurels winner has more than a spot of class about her and I've decided to leave the race alone instead.
Instead, we head to Hove for Pine Isle (13:12) who, having let us down in a recent Romford final can make it an incredible eight from her last nine over CD back against her own sex. Again, an early lead is not a necessity, and in a fair looking heat we should get [2.0] minimum.
Carden Bert has been in top form for sometime now, and while he is prone to the occasional lapse, including at today's home track, he looks well drawn in the 475m race at 13:27. The two inside dogs Blakes Saint and Conna Eagle could easily spoil each others chances early on. I'd be hopeful of [2.5] at worst.
