Forest May, the fastest of the three heat winners has shown rapid improvement through her four races so far, and was ultimately impressive in beating Kurious Incident last weekend.
The attention is very much on the racing at Wimbledon with the youngsters doing battle in the Puppy Oaks final, while a leading Oaks candidate looks set to enhance her chances on the support card.
Wimbledon stage the day's best racing, highlighted by the final of the Puppy Oaks, a competition pleasingly recently re-introduced to the calendar.
Last week's heats throw up their fair share of surprises, with Shaws Dilemma amongst those who failed to live up to expectations. Liz Mc Nair's runner was still good enough however to qualify and gets a second chance to shine in the final at 21.07, but I'm keener on Forest May, the fastest of the three heat winners.
Heather Dimmock's youngster - she's only a May 08 whelp - has shown rapid improvement through her four races so far, and was ultimately impressive in beating Kurious Incident last weekend. While an early lead would add to her chances, I don't believe it's a necessity, as she showed plenty of strength in her heat. Take 2.5 or bigger.
Ardbeg Kate won her first five starts, including an unbeaten run through the Rose Bowl at Crayford, before further impressing on Puppy Derby final night at Wimbledon. Beaten in two subsequent starts, she bounced back after a short layoff to win well at Crayford, and can capture the 20.34 en route to a crack at the Oaks next month.
Mike Fawsitt's bitch has early pace in abundance and should soon have matters under control from trap one and is worth a wager at 2.25 or bigger.
