Darrell Williams casts his eye over today's offerings at Oxford
Sunday afternoon's card at Oxford, while not offering any 'good things' as such, throws up three greyhounds worth backing, and with the competitive nature of the programme, just one winner should yield a profit.
Arguably the best of the bunch is Saving Tyrone (3.53), who may be overlooked by many punters given her continued rise through the grades. An A7 winner recently, she has now reached A3, but given her recent return from season looks up to the task. An early paced type, she has been handed a plum trap one draw inside a slower starting, middle edging rival, and can soon take control. I'd be looking for [4.0] minimum.
Southlodge Spy (4.37) has worn the red jacket in his last 26 starts, but I honestly don't think the switch to trap two will cause him any problems as he has the early speed to lead up the trap one runner Greyfox Millie, who dropped in grade, should help to make the market. The selection is not far off his fifth birthday, but is retaining his form well and I'd look for [4.5] or better.
Backing bitches out of season is one of the best ways to success, and how I wish I'd been on Broadacres Saba (5.11) when she won an A7 recently. Four grades higher previously, she now finds herself back in A3 company, but looks well pitched outside less fluent trappers and can continue her excellent run. Again [4.5] should be available.
