The winners have been coming in for The Hawk, our BAGS watcher, who takes on a couple more hounds.
Last week The Hawk 'brought in' Robins Fox from Yarmouth saying of him: "he may well win in this grade A7 at a big price soon" and, "his record from trap three is one from seven. He was only beaten seven races ago by a head in A6 grade from trap two and his time is near". He won his very next race on Friday from trap three at SP [5.5].
Also, the week before we said of Indigo Jenny, "She shows good early and runs on, and at this grade she will be mighty hard to beat next time." She won her next race on Sunday at SP [3.25].
The other two dogs mentioned in those two weeks finished second, although Winning Bond is running in A3 and we won't back him until he reverts to A4 company. Blue Hawaii was knocked over in his third race and becomes only the second dog to leave the kennel without returning a profit, while Sadlers Jenny lost again - meaning she has one more chance! In short, it was another profitable week.
This week's new inmates:
Mistley Palace, a December 2006 dog who has had 25 starts, has made my notebook on the last two occasions he has raced, and she enters the Hawk's virtual kennel largely down to his last appearance on 11th February. Drawn trap five (in which he has never won) she finished a short head and 1.75 length third in an A7 contest. She has been pushed back down to this class very quickly, and she is better than this grade - just six races ago in mid-January she won an A7. So impressed was the racing manager that he put her up two grades. She recorded a calculated 28.15 that day from trap six - it was her eighth time in an A7 and she has been placed in six of them. When she won that A7 she followed the trap five runner through the sectionals and then led at half way. If drawn in the stripes outside a fast starting runner then I would be confident she would win one of her next three races.
Mistley Palace, Sunderland A7
Whirlwind Dave is very fast in the early stages of his races, but is susceptible to any strong finishing types. However, last week he led until the home straight in an A4, and once headed battled back to stay second despite dogs attacking him from all angles. That was a good performance and he is another who is racing in a grade too low for his abilities. He has now raced twice in A4 company and won once and been second once. He has won three of nine handicap races and I would be very interested in backing him in one of these contests from the front, especially if drawn ahead of another fast starting type.
Whirlwind Dave, Newcastle A4
