How to find winners at Woodbine...
There are some strong and successful jockey/trainer combos that merit a long look when they show up in the entry box. They include Mark Casse and Patrick Husbands; Norman McKnight and Eurico Da Silva; Ralph Biamonte and Eurico Da Silva; and Michael Doyle and Luis Contreras.
Post 1 through 3 win above average on the Tapeta surface up to 7 furlongs. The outside posts (12 through 14) are at a strong disadvantage in both sprints and route races. In routes, however, the results are somewhat skewed based on a smaller sample. The same scenario holds true for the grass course.
The main track Tapeta surface usually plays fair and neutral to speed-types, stalkers and closers. The main exception is when the rain arrives. The surface then becomes extremely quick and speed-favoring. On the turf, the further the portable rails are out, the better speed does. The closer the rails are positioned combined with the tracks long stretch run usually favor closers.
When betting Woodbine look out for...
Speed-types ridden by Eurico Da Silva on the turf when the rails are brought all the way out. Jockey Luis Contreras does very well with closers and horses coming from off the pace. Trainers Martin Drexler and Norman McKnight do very well with new barn purchases and recent acquisitions. Look for horses going first or second off the claim from these top barns.
