Racing comes from York on Friday

"The rejuvenated Cavalryman has been one of the stories of the season and the eight-year-old has a fine chance of bagging another big win in the Lonsdale Cup..."

Timeform bring you their three best bets for day three of the 2014 Ebor Festival where the sprinters take centre stage...

Pearl Castle is an attractive win and place prospect in the opening handicap at 13:55. This son of Montjeu was bought into John Quinn's yard at the end of last year to go hurdling and made rapid progress to find himself competing in Grade One company within a few short months. Returning to the flat 50lbs below his top hurdle mark in June, he travelled with enthusiasm and responded well to pressure to land a C&D win. He again ran well behind King's Fete and Mighty Yar back at York last month and was subsequently a good sixth in the Galway Hurdle. With the switch in codes having previously brought out improvement and his flat mark still appearing workable, he should give a good show. Dangers abound of course and the reliable Communicator looks likely to run another game race.

The rejuvenated Cavalryman has been one of the stories of the season and the eight-year-old has a fine chance of bagging another big win in the Lonsdale Cup at 14:30. This redoubtable stayer is reliable as they come and easily saw off three of today's rivals, including 2013 Ascot Gold Cup winner Estimate, in the Goodwood Cup. The Queen's mare may not have appreciated the track at Goodwood, but still has questions to answer so preference is for the consistent Cavalryman. Dermot Weld does very well with both his fillies and his long-distance performers so the unexposed Pale Mimosa could be the one to chase the selection home. She is entitled to plenty of progress after just nine starts in three seasons and could yet justify Group One entries.

Though now seven, Sole Power does not appear to have lost any of his spark and can land the fourth Group One of his career in the Nunthorpe Stakes at 15:40. He beat several of today's rivals in the King's Stand and can confirm superiority with conditions in his favour. He hasn't been seen since Ascot due to soft ground and a skin infection, which is a concern, however he has performed well after a break in the past and his trainer can be trusted to have him ready to give his best.Aidan O'Brien's Cougar Mountain ran a taking race to finish fifth on just his second start in the July Cup and is a high-class prospect, while Hot Streak should appreciate the return to five furlongs, but preference is for the proven Sole Power.
