Having produced his best efforts at Newbury, Handy Andy looks primed to strike at the Berkshire venue in the 12:50. His latest effort, finishing third in a competitive novices' handicap chase, is already starting to look like a strong piece of form and the step up in trip should pose few problems given the way he kept on resolutely. It is a slight worry that the Colin Tizzard yard haven't been firing in the winners, but Handy Andy appeals as a very well-handicapped horse and should go very close over the course he runs so well at.
From the family of Gold Cup winner Denman, it would be a surprise if Polly Peachum could reach those lofty heights, but she should be good enough to take the 15:15 at Ludlow. Nicky Henderson's filly wasted little time in getting off the mark over hurdles, staying on well to win at Stratford. Today's step up in trip looks sure to suit and it would be disappointing were she to fail today.
If it has all gone wrong over the jumps, hopefully Sporting Gold can help us out by winning the 16:25 at Kempton. Well-bred and expensively purchased as a yearling, Sporting Gold has been a tad disappointing, failing to make an impression in three maidens in May. However, given a break and gelded, Sporting Gold steps into handicap company and it would be little surprise to see Roger Varian's charge produce a considerably improved effort.
