At Carlilse, Oddysey looks to have an excellent chance of following up her recent Haydock win in the fillies' handicap, over a mile, at 16:30. Michael Dods' three-year-old stands out as the most progressive sort in the race having won twice and been placed twice in her last four starts. She proved she handles ground with cut in it when winning at Ayr, over seven furlongs, and followed that up by finishing runner-up on her next two starts. But, it was the impression of Oddysey's recent success that makes her a solid bet here, quickening away to produce a career-best effort, and it is certainly not beyond her to defy the 8 lb rise she has incurred.
Down at Kempton this evening, Phantom Reach can follow up his recent Nottingham win in the two-mile handicap at 19:20. It wasn't a surprise that this half-brother to Chester Vase winner Ted Spread improved markedly when stepped up to this trip last time. The form of that win has been franked, with the fifth and seventh coming out and winning since. He ought to have more to offer over this distance and can overcome his 7 lb rise on what will be his polytrack debut.
Later on the same card, Mizwaaj is sure to go well in the seven-furlong handicap (20:20). Saeed Bin Suroor's Invincible Spirit gelding has improved this term, winning a maiden on the polytrack at Lingfield in May before having his stamina stretched by the step up to a mile next time. He quickly bounced back from that, though, scoring over this C&D at the end of June, overcoming a wide draw. The fact he hasn't been seen since then would be the only concern, and he is sure to have more to offer, with a good draw in stall two to help tonight.
