We kick off proceedings with a handicap over a mile from Nottingham (15:00) and it looks a fairly open affair. The one to keep on side is Norfolk Sound, who was third in a maiden over today's C&D last month and put in an even more promising performance at Thirsk last time. That represented her handicap debut and the manner in which she stayed on having been left with far too much to do suggested a good deal of improvement was possible. It would be no surprise to see her make light of an opening handicap mark of 59 for the very astute Chris Wall and with a claimer taking off a further 7 lb, conditions look set for a first career win.
We head north to Beverley for the next contest under consideration, a conditions race over the minimum trip (15:45) with a small but very select field lining up. Kingsgate Native has done little wrong in a better grade all year and looks dangerous on what could be his final start. However, he's become hard to win with and a chance is taken on Green Door, who ran well in a similar event at Leicester last time, shaping better than the bare result in the process. If he progresses from that he looks capable of winning a race of this nature and will be putting in his best work at the finish.
We return to Nottingham for the final bet of the day which comes in the sprint handicap over five furlongs (16:35) and Monumental Man is taken to reverse the form with the re-opposing Tyfos. He rather got first run on the selection when beating him at Chester recently, and on this afternoon's revised terms Monumental Man looks very much the one to keep on side. If he gets the run of the race, a return to the form which saw him win over this trip at Newmarket in May would be sufficient to gain his second win of the campaign, and his luckless defeat on the Roodee last time suggested that a revival was imminent.
