The second race on the card (17:50) provides us with our first bet as we take a chance that the consistent Fayr Fall will be capable of adding to his C&D triumph in July. He has been running well since that victory, finishing placed on his next four starts, and he enters this contest in better heart than many of his rivals.
Robert Cowell has developed a reputation as being particularly adept at handling sprinters; this theory will be put to the test in the 19:20 at Wolverhampton as Arctic Lynx, making his second start for Cowell, aims to build on an encouraging effort last time. He was given plenty to do on his first start for his new yard, held up in the early stages before staying on without ever quite looking like winning. It would be no surprise were he to improve upon that effort and go close here.
Hard Road (20:50) doesn't have much in the way of solid form to go on, but he was extremely well backed prior to his recent defeat at Kempton and, given those positive market vibes, is worth bearing in mind here. Returning from a seven-week absence, Hard Road shaped reasonably well in that contest, making late headway from an unpromising position. He looks to have been found a decent opportunity here and may be capable of capitalising on it.
