Kendal Mint can win for Clive Cox at Newbury

Well found in the market over C&D on her debut this month, the Clive Cox-trained Kendal Mint went into plenty of notebooks when finishing three-and-a-half lengths third to Richard Hannon's Ligeia having missed the break and made impressive headway after halfway...

Timeform provide you with bets from Brighton this afternoon and Newbury in the evening...

The 16:45 at Brighton looks a competitive affair, but Amenable looks one capable of finally taking advantage of his lowly mark. He falls into the modest category in terms of ability these days, but the Violet Jordan-trained gelding was not seen to best effect when a one-and-three-quarter lengths seventh to Sophie's Beau at Beverley last time over five furlongs. Hinting at a revival in fortunes, Amenable travelled better than most in midfield but couldn't get a run over one furlong out. Claimer Charles Bishop did not persevere with him once his chance had gone and he finished with running left. The six-year-old Bertolini gelding is one to keep onside at this level having won off a mark of 78 as recently as last August and a return to six furlongs will be no hindrance either.

The 18:55 at Newbury does not look a strong two-year-old maiden for the course and it is likely to fall the way of Kendal Mint. Well found in the market over C&D on her debut this month, the Clive Cox-trained filly went into plenty of notebooks when finishing three-and-a-half lengths third to Richard Hannon's Ligeia having missed the break and made impressive headway after halfway. A half-sister to the smart Nevisian Lad, she is sure to progress and can get off the mark at the second time of asking.

In Newbury's 20:35, Ralph Beckett's Squeeze My Brain can open her account in the fillies' handicap fitted with a first-time hood. The daughter of Lawman was having her first run for eight months when catching the eye on handicap debut at Sandown last time. A well backed 7/2 shot, Squeeze My Brain fared best of those who were held up, beaten three-and-three-quarter lengths in third. She runs off the same mark of 74 again, will appreciate stepping up to ten furlongs and is open to further improvement.
